I was born in Christchurch and grew up in New Zealand; but I worked in the UK for 15 years before returning home to raise my two children.
Six of my years in the UK were spent in the hospitality business. I also worked in healthcare. These opportunities provided me with valuable insight and experience in corporate accounting.
When I left the corporate world, I was looking for more flexibility around work and family life (and no annoying commute!)
In 2006, I co-started a healthcare recruitment business in Auckland. After seven years, it was turning over $7million, so I certainly got to understand the pain points of running your own business.
Soon after that, I started AccountOnMe.
This meant translating corporate accounting and business start-up experience into the world of small and medium business accounting and advisory.
And, because of my background and connections in hospitality, that was the natural starting place.
Over the years, I’ve been able to merge the two worlds: bringing corporate level accounting and business experience to help small and medium hospitality and service businesses around Auckland.
In particular, I’ve identified and assisted in the main areas that start-up and small business owners typically find tricky: not just the financial aspects but streamlining admin with new technology and going beyond accounting and bookkeeping to lay the foundations for growth with virtual CFO expertise.
Being able to help small businesses punch above their weight and fight the battles along the road to growth makes every day a great one!
